Back to News Written on 03-Aug-2011 by GallienusGood news from the John Lewis/Waitrose chain. Craig Lewis, the new marketing director of John Lewis, has confirmed that he 'has no plans to introduce piped music in our stores. The calmness of the John Lewis shopping experience is held in high regard by our customers and we would not wish to compromise this in any way.' This announcement, which will please not only Pipedowners but the third of the population who detest piped music, reconfirms the fact that piped music is anything but essential to commercial success.

Excellent news. Partly explains, of course, why Waitrose has been doing so well and M&S so badly! People like us have been leaving M&S in droves & doing our shopping in Waitrose. M&S knows what it has to do, but is it still too much in thrall to the 'consultants' who are persuading it that people actually want muzak?

I recently sent an e-mail to the CO-OP strongly objecting to their DJs and their 'music' - that was 3 weeks ago. I haven't received a reply yet. I suspect that places like the CO-OP think music keeps their staff happy while carrying out their 'boring' jobs ?? - though nobody there would admit this, of course.
